The time is now, wrestling season is here. What does that mean? For the true wrestler, wrestling never left. To be a true wrestler doesn't mean you have to be the best wrestler, or even a good wrestler. To be a true wrestler means you have to buy into the sport. Wrestling is hard. Wrestling is a commitment. Wrestling is a sacrifice. Wrestling is a lifestyle. A wrestler doesn't show up the 1st day of practice and then hang up the shoes on the last day of practice. A wrestler does more. There is no off-season, there is only the next season. A wrestler is always hungry to learn more and be better.
This is an exciting time of year. For some it is exciting because its the start of a new season. For me it is exciting because now is the time that all that hard work will pay off. This is the time where you see progress and growth from months of lifting, open mats, camps and tournaments. This is the time where technique, strength, and confidence come pouring out of the true wrestlers. This is the time to continue working hard, have fun and make a name for yourself in the sport you love to hate.
Not everyone on your team is a true wrestler yet, but that doesn't mean they can't be. As a coach I love watching the committed wrestlers earn their accolades, and be given the respect that they deserve. But I also love watching new wrestlers turn into true wrestlers. Being a wrestlers is a choice. If you are a new wrestler, make the choice to develop into a true wrestler. It will change your life.
